The 1.5L BS 6 compliant petrol engine and automatic transmission option are new additions to the Maruti Suzuki S-Cross. Due to this, it is now a compelling alternative in its category. Even though it offered a 1.3L or a 1.6L diesel engine and was known for building sturdy vehicles, the diesel version, introduced in 2015, garnered mixed reviews despite having a devoted customer base. This was because it lacked a petrol engine or an automatic transmission.

But Maruti Suzuki rectified this problem in 2020 by releasing the K15B petrol engine and a 4-speed automated gearbox. While some people might miss the torquey diesel engine, our brief drive in the gasoline-powered version showed that the vehicle has become more refined and ideal for urban settings since switching to gasoline. The S-Cross is still a useful all-arounder.

Maruti Suzuki S-Cross Design

The S-Cross preserves its current aesthetic appeal and doesn’t add excessive louvres or extraneous design components. The car’s attractive chrome accents and durable plastic cladding give it a sophisticated yet strong appearance that allows it to survive normal wear and tear without suffering any harm.

Nexa blue, grey, and white are the most popular colours for S-Cross purchasers, but we think a dark green option would be a terrific addition. Roof rails and 16-inch machined alloy wheels, two distinctive elements that come standard on all variations save the base Sigma, add to the car’s allure.

Maruti Suzuki S-Cross Interior

The S-Cross’ interior matches its more sophisticated look thanks to the dashboard’s clean lines, which give the sense that the cabin is roomy and open. The interior is functional and furnished with useful amenities, including a steering wheel that can be tilted and telescoped, 60:40 split-folding rear seats, a glove box, footwell and boot lights, and other connected car technology.

The improved 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system is the major change, though. The system has an updated user interface with better visuals and layout and overall increased responsiveness.

The screen responds quicker, connections are made quicker and it looks much more vibrant now. The navigation system can be used through Smartplay Studio mobile application. Then you get Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth connectivity, voice commands and remote control through a smartphone application.

Although it must be noted that most of these features are available in the upper Zeta and Alpha variants. The reclining rear seats are excellent to add to comfort, and the large boot means luggage space is not compromised (353 litres at 1st position; 375 litres at 2nd position).

Maruti Suzuki S-Cross Performance

The K15B petrol engine with Smart Hybrid technology is the biggest modification to the Maruti Suzuki S-Cross. This 4-cylinder engine has a top output of 104 PS and 138 Nm of torque. The engine has an idle start/stop system, torque aid during acceleration, and efficiency-improving brake energy regeneration. These characteristics give it a quick and snappy feel. The engine runs smoothly, which helps the car handle well while driving. Although the 5-speed manual transmission is flawless, shorter gear stick throws would be advantageous.

Driving is quite simple with the 4-speed automatic transmission, but more research is needed to determine how responsive it is. The all-around disc brakes provide surefooted braking, and the steering is light and simple for close parking.

The S-Cross has always been known for its positive ride quality, and it continues to deliver in this aspect. The vehicle can manage most surfaces with ease, but additional testing on longer countryside trips will provide more insight into its capabilities.

Summary

Overall, we are really pleased with the petrol S-Cross. With the extra benefit of telemetry, it is elegant, roomy, and well-equipped, and the automatic transmission will make it a fantastic option for drivers in cities.

Another major benefit is the quiet interior, which makes the petrol engine virtually inaudible at city speeds and makes the vehicle efficient and environmentally friendly thanks to Smart Hybrid technology. Despite the short amount of time we spent with the car, it left a lasting impression. For buyers looking for a tough crossover that’s hidden beneath a fashionable appearance, the S-Cross is now a better option, and it excels as an all-arounder.
